United Nations report on “fertility crisis”

A new report out today found that one in five people around the world don’t expect to have the number of children they would like.

The report from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN agency for reproductive rights, looked at data and research from 14 countries, and warned that hundreds of millions of people are not able to have the families they desire.

Dr Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of UNFPA, described this as a “fertility crisis”, and the agency has called on governments to empower people to make reproductive decisions freely, including by investing the full range of reproductive health services and reliable information.

The report shows that there are many reasons behind the problem, but here in the UK, we know that the lack of funded fertility treatment is having a real impact and The Fertility Alliance is calling for proper investment in making the full range of reproductive health services available to everyone who needs them.
