The Fertility Alliance at the Assisted Reproduction conference

We spent such an interesting afternoon at an HFEA conference at Girton College in Cambridge yesterday, hearing about the past, present and future of assisted reproduction.

The conference was organised to mark the 100th birthday of Dame Mary Warnock, who led the committee which set the regulatory policies for IVF and embryo research in the UK. Her work established guidelines that balanced scientific progress in fertility with moral and ethical considerations.

We heard about the early days of regulation from some of those who were involved, including Professor Peter Braude, Dame Lesley Regan and Baroness Ruth Deech, and about the present from a whole range of leading figures in the field.

Our Chair, Tim Child, gave a fascinating talk on the future of fertility regulation, looking at some of the innovations in the sector.

The Fertility Alliance team were there to listen to Tim and the other speakers, with Trustees Anya Sizer and Angela Pericleous-Smith joined by co-founder Kate Brian. Our Advisory Board member Marta Jansa-Perez also attended the event.

Many thanks to the HFEA and Girton College for a wonderful afternoon.
