More than three-quarters of a million people are currently on waiting lists for gynaecology services, a new report published today by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has revealed.
That’s enough people to fill Wembley stadium eight times over…
We know this is affecting many fertility patients who are having to join long waiting lists for investigations or treatments they need before they can access fertility treatment – something we reported in our own survey earlier this year.
The survey showed 76% of those waiting said it was impacting their mental health, and 69% said they were unable to take part in daily activities including going to work. The delays are also linked to an increase in emergency admissions for severe symptoms.
We join the RCOG in calling on the UK Government to deliver urgent help for those currently waiting for hospital gynaecology care, and for long-term, sustained funding to address the complex systemic issues driving waiting list growth.
