There are so many myths and misconceptions around fertility and IVF and they can leave people feeling anxious, confused and sometimes spending money on treatments or tests they may not need.
Baroness Geeta Nargund has spent more than 30 years working in reproductive medicine and has highlighted some of the common fertility myths
💬 A few important reminders:
🔹 There isn’t a sudden “fertility cliff” but fertility does decline with age.
🔹 Fertility is not just a women’s issue. Male age can also affect fertility.
🔹 IVF doesn’t always mean high-dose stimulation and lots of medication.
🔹 Spending more money does not necessarily mean greater success.
🔹 Regular periods don’t automatically mean everything is fine with your fertility.
🔹 Stress from everyday life is unlikely to be the reason you aren’t conceiving.
🔹 Having one child doesn’t guarantee that conceiving again will be easy secondary infertility is real.
🔹 Egg freezing is not a guarantee of having a baby.
🔹 Be cautious about fertility “add-ons” and claims that aren’t supported by good evidence.
Good fertility information matters. Understanding what is evidence-based can help people make informed decisions about their fertility and treatment.
Knowledge matters. Evidence matters. Your fertility journey matters.
