Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science and we want to say a huge thank you to all the incredible women working in fertility and assisted reproduction.
From embryologists and researchers to doctors and nurses, their dedication changes lives every day. Their pioneering work continues to improve techniques and develop new ways to help those facing fertility issues.
We couldn’t let the day pass without a special tribute to Jean Purdy, a true pioneer in IVF, whose work helped shape the future of fertility treatment, working alongside Robert Edwards and Patrick Steptoe. She was instrumental in the pioneering research that led to the birth of the first IVF baby, Louise Brown, in 1978. Despite her significant contributions, her work was often overlooked, and it is only recently that her role has been properly recognised.
To all those women working in clinics and laboratories across the world to improve the options for those facing fertility issues, thank you from all of us at The Fertility Alliance!
