We’re delighted to share some top fertility tips from Dr Justin Chu, Medical Director at TFP Fertility and Chair of the British Fertility Society’s Fertility Education Initiative.
Dr Chu shared some everyday habits that could be having an impact on fertility.
Alcohol and smoking
Both drinking alcohol and smoking reduce sperm count and can damage egg health, with effects lasting months after quitting.
Diet and obesity
Processed foods and being overweight can impact hormone balance and ovulation, while also reducing sperm quality.
Screen time
Hours sat in front of devices not only encourage inactivity but also expose people to heat from laptops and phones, which can also reduce sperm quality.
Pollution
From air pollution to everyday chemicals, environmental toxins are increasingly linked to reduced fertility outcomes.
Dr Chu said: “Obesity, smoking and excessive alcohol are long-known culprits, but there are many modern-day factors that people are unaware is impacting their fertility.
“Conception is about creating the best environment for healthy eggs and sperm. That means thinking beyond the medical side, lifestyle matters enormously.
Small changes such as improving diet, exercising regularly and cutting down alcohol can help, while switching off screens before bed can also make a real difference.”
