
We heard this week that the fertility rate in England and Wales has fallen again and is now the lowest level records began in 1938 according to the ONS, or Office for National Statistics.
Although there was a small rise in live births last year, the overall trend is clear, that fewer people are having children.
So why aren’t we seeing an increase in access to fertility treatment in line with guidance from NICE and the Women’s Health Strategy?
Ensuring proper funding for IVF is clinically effective and cost-effective, and would be one strand in helping to address population decline. It’s time for fertility treatment to be taken seriously.
